Memorial Day
“And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ (Luke 22:19)
This weekend we will reflect and remember the sacrifices of those who have gone before us as veterans– and the sacrifice of the One and only who could atone for our sins, Jesus. Jamie Wynn will return home from seminary and preach a message on the Lord’s supper and its importance in our lives. Jesus gave us a memorial meal in which we may consider the nature of His love to us; his substitute for us, sacrifice on our behalf, and satisfaction of the Father’s just demands. I hope you will be able to come Sunday and be a part of this time of worship, remembrance and celebration. Also, it will be Memorial day weekend. This too is set aside as a time to remember our veterans and the importance of what they have given for us. Our freedoms and blessings have come at a great cost:
It is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the veteran, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
